Can we be Thankful?
This is a strange year to be celebrating Thanksgiving. Usually, this is a time for us to come together, but not only are we forbidden, we are also more divided than we have been in generations. It’s been a long hard year, and it can be difficult to see what to be thankful for too.
However, thankfulness doesn’t rely on external circumstances.
Thankfulness isn’t something that depends on who you are with, what you have in your bank account, or where you live. Thankfulness is a perspective. You can choose to look at the world one way and be bitter or choose to look at the world another way and be thankful.
His Grace is Sufficient
That is why grace is so essential. By acknowledging God’s grace, we can see we deserve nothing.
Everything we have has been provided through His grace. We deserve none of it. It doesn’t matter if others have a lot more than us. The material things don’t matter. What matters is the eternal. What matters is that despite all of our flaws and sins, he still loves us and provides for us, even if we are undeserving. His grace is sufficient.
Becoming New People
Once we are able to grasp grace then, not only does our whole world change, but we ourselves change.
We become new people. We can then be genuinely thankful for what we have and give to those that are just as undeserving as we are. It changes our hearts. That’s what Thanksgiving is all about.
